Carr Civil Engineering https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk Fri, 26 Feb 2021 12:14:13 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.2.2 Remove Broken Paving Slabs at Frensham AGI https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/remove-broken-paving-slabs-at-frensham-agi/ Tue, 21 Jan 2020 11:46:55 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1178

We were called into carry out works at Frensham AGI, the works consisted of lifting sunken & broken slabs, which were causing a trip hazard for people entering the site compound. We were issued a Form of Authority & Safe Working Procedures were put into place for working on or near buried pressurised pipework, PAMS were used at all times, with suitable PPE.

The works consisted of site set up with barriers, fire extinguishers & breathing apparatus in place. Once the slabs were removed it had been agreed that a concrete base would be laid, the ground was levelled and  hardcore laid, whacked and sealed, with a timber framework constructed, concrete was brought in via wheelbarrow and brush finished.

Crowthorne Reinstatement Project https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/crowthorne-reinstatement-project/ Mon, 14 Oct 2019 09:58:01 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1158 We have been tasked as part of the reinstatement at Crowthorne Project to cut back an area of heather within the forest with the use of a brush cutter, bagging it all up into ton bags and then moving it to the job site to encourage new growth of heather. The engineers moved a total of 35 ton bags of heather and spread it across the area.

Roger Stace the Land Manager (Conservation) for Berkshire advised the below:

“I was on site today and have looked at the work Sean and the team had done and am very pleased with the results. Thank you for the teams efforts”

Close down meeting at Crowthorne for the Zinc Ribbon & Arc Strike Project https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/close-down-meeting-at-crowthorne-for-the-zinc-ribbon-arc-strike-project/ Wed, 02 Oct 2019 11:15:48 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1137 Following the completion of the Crowthorne Project a close down meeting was held with Natural England the BBOWT Council, Bracknell Council & SGN the client.

All parties were happy with the project and the way it had been reinstated, and we have agreed with our client to cut down some heather & reseed the area as a goodwill gesture to the councils & Natural England for being so accommodating.

Comments from Natural England, Des Sussex – Team Leader

“This sounds very good – many thanks for taking the nature conservation interests of the site into account with your management of the project. I hope the future management plans will help to safeguard the pipeline as well as the habitats”

Nitrogen Sleeve Endseal Repair at Mill Ride, Ascot https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/nitrogen-sleeve-endseal-repair-at-mill-ride-ascot/ Fri, 09 Aug 2019 09:15:39 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1104 Sheeted & framed excavation of 5 metres x 5 metres x 4 metres was used to excavate down on to a leaking end seal. Full temporary works design was put into place before any work commenced.

Once the end seal and filling points were exposed, the sleeve was then pressurised,  and it was found that the end seal was offset and not holding pressure. A decision was made by the client that a bespoke end seal was to be manufactured and installed.  Once the endseal was installed the sleeve was then repressurised with nitrogen and is now holding pressure, resulting in the sleeve now being compliant.

Here we have a before and after picture of works carried out on the verge, so a notice was issued to the council for their approval to carry out the works, signs and barriers,  very little footway incursion! Very tidy job!!

Installation of Zinc Ribbon & Arc Strike Inspections on HP Pipeline PO86. https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/installation-of-zinc-ribbon-on-high-pressure-gas-pipe/ Fri, 05 Jul 2019 10:25:00 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1040 All of the team have been working at Crowthorne, on the zinc ribbon installation. The reason for the zinc ribbon installation is to depreciate the AC current on the HP pipeline. We have installed the zinc ribbon parallel to the pipeline on both sides & at pipe depth. Pipeline was exposed at 20 metre intervals, making sure that the pipeline was supported in 3 metre sections. Arc strike inspections were carried out by the client, if there had been any arc strikes present then a P11 assessment would be carried out, the results of this would determine whether this section of pipeline would require blasting and recoating.

The digging methodology used on this project was a stepped battered excavation, hand digging within 1 metre from the side of the pipeline, due to the project being under SW2 permitry.

PO86 Arc Strike Investigations & Epoxy Shell Installation https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/po86-arc-strikes-on-hp-pipeline/ Mon, 03 Jun 2019 10:15:56 +0000 https://carrcivilengineering.co.uk/?p=1021 Due to a recent heath fire,  multiple plumes of  dense, thick, acrid smoke rose up into the high voltage overhead power cables, resulting in multiple arc strikes travelling back down through the carbon within the smoke,  striking the HP Pipeline parallel to the high voltage overhead cables.

After excavations were carried out & the pipeline had been surveyed by the client via a P11 assessment, the results of this were sent off to a third party mechanical damage expert, and they advised that an epoxy repair shell should be fitted to the pipeline. See below photographs.
